about

The first song that Elizabeth Rodriguez wrote after immigrating to Canada from Cuba, while experiencing what was her first long, hard Canadian winter. The track quotes a verse from a classic Cuban piece by Trio Matamoros called Olvido or “forgotten,” that speaks of the suffering of being far from loved ones. Laberinto is an exploration of the challenges of immigration and the inevitable longing for home.

lyrics

LABERINTO
Aunque quiera olvidarme

Pues no puedo olvidar.

Aunque quiera olvidarme...
Even if she wants to forget me
It must be impossible
Because eternal memories
She will always have from me
My caresses will be
The terrible ghost
How much I suffer
How much I suffer away from you.

I've left the waves behind
The endless summer
I've left without thinking
A part of me
What I never thought would serve me.

English Translation
In the past resides
The planted kiss
The cloudy night that I wanted to erase
The deepest kiss
The center of my world
And the wings were born and I started to fly
No more luggage but the hope
And to a new adventure I wanted to launch

But everything was impossible
Well I can not forget.

Even if she wants to forget me.....
